  1. State two safety precautions to be taken when planning a piece of timber on the
    work bench.

Observation

Most candidates were able to state two safety precautions to be taken when planning a piece of timber on the work bench.

However, few of them failed to answer the question:
The expected response to question 1 is as given below:

. 1.       Two safety precautions to be taken when planning a piece of timber on the work bench:
(i)         use the right plane for right operation;
(ii)        make sure the job is firmly secured;
(iii)       make sure the bench stop is firmly fixed;
(iv)       make sure that the plane cutter is sharp;
(v)        put the plane on the bench well  when not in use.
(vi)       the surface of the work piece must be higher than the surface of the bench stop;

                        (vii)      clear the savings on the workbench during operation.
