Question 2

Explain five nationalistic roles expected of individuals in the society.

Observation

This was quite a popular question. A large number of candidates performed highly in this question. However, a few candidates failed to highlight the nationalistic roles of individual in the society; perhaps, they did not understand the question. More often than not, such candidates were discussing about the nationalistic activities of individuals during the pre-independence era. The candidates were expected to provide some of the following answers to the question:

 

i. Drawing the attention of the government and other leaders to pressing needs and problems of the society.

ii. Providing solutions to prevailing societal/civic problems.

iii. Encouraging popular participation e.g. voting in elections.

iv. Ensuring justice, equity and fair play in the society.

v. Placing national interest above personal interest.

vi. Opposing the implementation of policies and programmes that do not have human face (anti – people policies).

vii. Engaging in constructive criticism of leaders and policies of government.

viii. Rendering services for national security even at the expense of one’s life

ix. Regular payment of taxes when applicable

x. Exemplary representation of one’s society/country

xi. Preventing any act of sabotage against the society/country.

xii. Encouraging the use of locally made goods/services.

xiii. Fighting corruption in all ramifications/sphere

xiv. Respecting constituted authorities
