Civic Education Paper 2 WASSCE (SC), 2017

Question 6

Ways civic education can help eradicate drug addiction among youths.

Observation

This question was unpopular as many candidates ran away from it. The performance of most candidates who answered it was not impressive as they did not understand its demands. Weaknesses detected in the question were evident when some candidates misinterpreted the question to the roles government can play to eradicate drug addiction among youths. In some other instances, some students identified the aims and objectives of Civic Education without relating it to drug abuse. Expected answers candidates could have given are;

  1. Through the inculcation/cultivation of right attitudes and values.
  2. Through skill acquisition for youth empowerment.
  3. Awareness creation about the danger of drug addiction.
  4. Encouraging youths to be good citizens.
  5. By discouraging youths from illegal/unregulated use of drugs.
  6. By discouraging youths from associating with drug addicted group/peers.
  7. By teaching youths to appreciate themselves as future leaders/parents in the society.
  8. By teaching youths necessary skills for self-control/discipline in society.
  9. By encouraging youths to appreciate the essence of good health and healthy living.
