Observation

The question was popular among the candidates and most of the candidates performed very well in this question.  Most candidates were able to give the appropriate response to the question, evidence that they were taught on fabric decoration. Explanation of the following in fabric decoration

  1. Squeegee: It is a tool used in spreading ink onto the fabric in printing process. It is made of flat rubber with a wooden handle.                                         
  2. Mesh: it is a woven fabric made of silk or organdie/organdy materials fixed to a wooden frame for printing process. There are two types namely fine and open mesh.        
  3. Triads: It is the use of three colours at equal distance in the colour wheel for the purpose of fabric decoration.             
  4. Oxidation: It is a process in which a chemical substance(s) effect(s) colour change on dyed fabrics when exposed to air.                                
  5. Pattern: It is a repeated use/arrangement of motifs or shapes at regular intervals to create/form designs on fabrics.
  6. Dye: It is a substance made from plants or chemicals which is processed into liquid and used to change the colour of a fabric/fibre/yarn.                          
  7. Tjanting: It is a tool to apply/spread hot wax onto fabrics to create intricate patterns/designs. It is a cone-shaped metal object with a wooden handle and a thin sprout through which hot wax flows onto the fabric.                                                 
  8. Marbling: It is a technique in tie-dyeing that involves squeezing of the fabric on a flat surface to achieve a definite/accidental designs/patterns. This technique is purely textural in effects.
  9.
