  2. Outline four responsibilities of a citizen to the state.

Observation

This was a popular question and many of the candidates who answered the question performed above average. They understood the demands of the question and scored high marks. Some candidates failed in part (b) because of skimpy answers

 


However, the candidates were expected to write the following points in order to score high marks:


  1. A citizen is a legal member of the state who enjoys all rights and privileges and owes allegiance o the state.

    1. Obedience to the laws of the state.

    2. Payment of taxes.

    3. Defence of the state against any external attacks and internal insurrection.

    4. Vote during election.

    5. Protection of state/public property.

    6. Assist law enforcement agencies in exposing crimes and criminals.

    7. Respect for national symbols.

    8. To protect and safeguard the environment e.g. communal labour.

    9. Performance of service to the state.

    10. Keeping of state secret.

    11. To serve as a witness and a juror when summoned.

    12. To respect the rights, freedom and legitimate interest of others.
