Observation

This question was unpopular as it was avoided by some of the candidates. The few ones who attempted it did not perform well; they failed to provide correct answers to the questions part (b). The candidates were expected to provide the following answers in order to score good

 



    1. Clifford Constitution 1922.

    2. Richards’ Constitution 1946.

    3. Macpherson Constitution 1951.

    4. Lyttleton Constitution 1954.


    1. It provided for a Bicameral legislature made up of the Senate and House of Representatives.

    2. It made provision for citizenship in Nigeria.

    3. It granted emergency power to the central government.

    4. It provided for a parliamentary system of government.

    5. It made provision for the protection of fundamental human rights and freedom.

    6. It granted the federal Supreme Court the power of judicial review.

    7. It created the Judicial Service Commission with the power to appoint judges.

    8. All residual powers were placed in the hands of the regions.

    9. It provided for the position of Governor-General who represented the Queen of England and the Prime Minister.

    10. It stated the basis for revenue allocation.

    11. Provision was made for alteration of the regional boundaries and creation of states.

    12. It provided for constitutional amendment.

    13. It retained federalism inherited from 1954 Lyttleton constitution.
