(a) (i) List three materials used in bronze casting.
(ii) Describe the process involved in bronze casting.

(b) Outline any four importance of bronze casting.

Observation

This was not a very popular question. The few students who attempted it performed very badly. They did not know the process and materials. Some of them however knew the importance of bronze casting. To score good marks, they were expected to give the following answers:
(a)(I) (i) wax
         (ii) tin
         (iii) copper
         (iv) wood/coal
         (v) clay
         (vi) hammer
         (vii) water
    (II) (i) melt the wax, tin and copper to get bronze;
          (ii) mould into required shapes;
          (iii) cover with thick layer of clay;
          (iv) heat the product till hardened;
          (v) leave to cool;
          (vi) break clay to remove the product.
(b)  (i) bronze objects were for domestic use e.g. cooking utensils;
       (ii) used as emblems to enhance the prestige of Royals and influential men in the society;
       (iii) bronze casting helped to produce highly talented craftsmanship;
       (iv) provided employment opportunity as a source of income;
        (v) preservation of cultural heritage;
        (vi) bronze ornaments were used for decoration;
        (vii) used to cast images of deities.
