Copy and complete the table of values for y = x2 – 2 for -3≤ x≤4.

on the y-axis, draw the graph of y = x2 – 2.

Use your graph to find the:

roots of the equation x2 – 2 = 0;
values of x for which x2 – 3 = 0;
gradient of the curve at the point where x = -1.

Observation

This question was reportedly well attempted by the candidates. Majority of them were said to have completed the table of values correctly and drawn the graph correctly. However, it was also reported that majority of them could not interpret the graph correctly neither could they find the gradient at the point

x = -1. Teachers are encouraged to lay emphasis on this area during instruction.
