Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair.  In part (a)(i) candidates correctly name the lines on a football field and in  (a) (ii) candidates also correctly mention types of kick awarded in a football game.  In part (b) candidates could not correctly explain the following terms as used in the game of volleyball:  setting and rotation.  In part (c) candidates could not correctly state duties of the referee in basketball game.  In part (d) candidates correctly name officials in volleyball game.
However, the expected answer were as follows:      
5 (a) (i)  Lines on a football field

  • goal  line
  • side line/touch line
  • centre line 

 

(ii)  Types of kick awarded in a football game

  • Penalty kick
  • Corner kick
  • Goal kick
  • Direct free kick
  • Indirect free kick
  • Kick – off

(b)        Explanation of terms in the game of volleyball
(i)         setting:  Kind of pass made to position the ball near the net so that a team mate can spike/smatch/explained.

(ii)        rotation: Is a clockwise movement of players to the next position when a team has gained the right to serve.

(c)       Duties of a referee in basketball game

  • inspects and approves all equipment/explained
  • tosses the ball to start the game/administers jump ball
  • decides whether or not a goal shall count
  • decides the forfeiture of a game by team when necessary
  • decides disputes on which time keeper and scorer disagree
  • examines the score board and approves the score at the end of each half
  • stops the game for when there is an infringement
  • signs the official score sheet
