Skillfully execute the 100 metres race trough the phases of the start, take-off, running form and finish as fast as possible. [25 marks]

 

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and they performed very well. Candidates skillfully executed the 100 metres through the phases of the start, take-off, running form and finish as fast as possible.

 

The expected answers are as follows:

 

Activity 2:  Execution of the 100m race.

Procedure:     Candidates are to undergo the normal command of starting a sprint race using the crouch start.  The candidates run as fast as possible through the phases of the start, take-off, running form and finish. Use the scale of 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 as shown below to rate the candidate’s performance.

All performance will be judged according to the following rubrics:

Start:

  1. assume crouch position
  2. body some distance behind the scratch line
  3. hands placed on ground shoulder width apart
  4. head dropped
  5. rock body forward and upward/transfer body weight to the hands
  6. raise the head slightly/look a few minutes ahead.

 

Take – off:

  1. push off with force
  2. full extension of rear/push off leg
  3. forceful swing of the arm opposite to the rear leg/push – off leg
  4. gradual raise into an erect position
  5. head not fully raised

 

      Running form:

  1. high knee raised
  2.  full extension of the legs
  3.  land on the balls of the feet
  4.  swing arms forward and backward alternately
  5.  keep head straight and look forward

 

Finish:

  1. end with speed
  2. keep head forward
  3. lean the body forward/chest/torso out
  4. maintain balance
  5. cross the finish line
