(ii) List two equipment used by athletes during a 4 X 100m relay race         [2 marks]
in athletics.
(b) Explain the following terms used in athletics:
(i)  photo finish;                                                                                              [3 marks]
(ii) torso;                                                                                                         [3 marks]
(iii) runway.                                                                                                    [3 marks]
(c) State four differences between 100 metres and 3, 000 metres trace in athletics.[3 marks]

Observation

 

This question was attempted by majority of the candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a) (i) most of the candidates correctly mentioned athletic events in which the crouch start is used. In part (a) (ii) they did well in it.  In part (b) majority of the candidates could not explain photo finish, torso and runaway. In part (c) most of the candidates could not correctly state differences between 100 metres and 3, 000 metres trace in athletics.

(i) PHOT FINISH
A situation which may occur at the finish of spirit races in which it is difficult to place the athletes/explained.

 ( ii) TORSO
It is that part of the body excluding the head, neck, arms and legs that crosses the finish line for placement of athletes.

 (iii) RUNWAY
It is an area within which athlete run to gather momentum to execute a throw/jump in athletics
