Observation

 

This question was attempted by majority of the candidates and their performance was good. In part (a) (i) many candidates were able to draw the long jump pit. In part (a) (ii) some candidates could not state features of long jump event.  In part (b) majority of the candidates correctly stated officials needed in athletics meet. In part (c) many candidates correctly stated duties of the referee in athletics meet.

  • it is an individual event style
  • it involves running
  • it involves jumping

  • it involves runaway, take –off board and landing pit

                         
(iii) RULES OF THE LONG JUMP EVENT

  • athlete is allowed maximum of six trials
  • athlete must not run through the landing pit
  • somersaulting is not allowed
  • athlete must not touch the ground beyond the take off board with any part of the body before landing into the pit
  • the best of jumps of each competitors is used for placement
  •  measurement is taking from the nearest break of contact in landing to the nearer edge of the take off board
  • landing completely outside the pit is invalid
  • taking off on both feet is not allowed

  • ensure that the meet start on time
  • sees to the smooth running of the meet
  • ensures that all markings are accurate
  • sees to it that all markings are accurate
  • sees to it that all missile/structures are in place
  • has right  to disqualify all athlete/explained
  • checks and approve all equipment
