This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was
fair. In part (a) Candidates manage to define an injury which, few of them wrote
wrong answers such as casualty in the war with Boko Haram, plane crash and motor
accident. In part (b) Few candidates made a fair attempt; many candidates wrote
definition of nose bleeding instead of procedure which for muscle pull procedure
candidates wrote wrong answers that the affected person should be hit forcefully
before going to the hospital.
However, the expected answers are as follows:
7(a) INJURY
An injury is damage/harm to any part of the human body.
(b) PROCEDURE FOR ADMINISTERING FIRST AID IN THE
FOLLOWING CONDIDTIONS
(i) FIRST AID FOR NOSE BLEEDING
- support the casualty in a sitting position with the head slightly forward, do not
lie down casualty
- instruct casualty to breathe through the mouth
- pinch firmly the soft part of the nose.
- loose clothing around neck and chest.
- soak cotton ball/wool with hydrogen peroxide and insert in the nostrils.
- apply cold compress over the nose.
- take the victim to hospital/named.
(ii) FIST AID FOR MUSCLE PULL
- place the affected part in a comfortable position.
- massage the affected muscle gently.
- use ice/cod compress to reduce swelling.
- avoid strain/exertion on the affected muscle.
