This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was
good. In part (a)(i) Candidates correctly define violence in sports however, few
went off the track by making reference to Boko Haram and burning of public places
such as market. In (a)(ii) candidates also listed groups of people that could cause
violence in sports meanwhile, few listed wrong answers such as middlemen,
opponents/coach runners. In part (b) Candidates correctly stated ways by which
violence in sports can be prevented although, few candidates missed the track.
However, the expected answers are as follows:
9(a)(i) VIOLENCE IN SPORTS
Violence in sports can be defined as unlawful/harmful actions/chaos/crime/unsociable behaviours exhibited by the people against on e another during sports activities/named
e. g. hooliganism.
(ii) CLASSES OF PEOPLE WHICH COULD CAUSE VIOLENCE IN SPORTS
- fans/supporters club.
- athletes/participants/players.
- spectators.
- officials.
(b) PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE IN SPORTS
- free flow of information/effective communication.
- good officiating/rules and regulations.
- presence of a law enforcement agents/named.
- provision of spectator barrier.
- having the spirit of sportsmanship/friendship.
- ensuring that those who violate the rulers and regulations are sanctioned.
