This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was
fair. In part (a) Candidates correctly named bones of the appendicle skeleton
although, few candidates named wrong answers such as skin, farcical, light joint,
skull, rib, lumbar, sacrum as bones of the appendicle skeleton.
In part (b) Candidates took wrong answer in describing a reflex action as the action that
is performed without any stress and the action that takes place unconsciously in the
body involuntary
The expected answers are as follows:
8(a) BONES OF THE APPENDICULAL SKELETON
- clavicle. - fibula.
- pelvic girdle/named. - radius.
- tibia. - scapula.
- ulna. - metatarasals.
- femur. - metacarpals.
- humerus - phalanges
- tarsals. - patella
- carpals.
(b) RELEX ACTION
- A sensory neuron with receptors responds to an appropriate stimulus.
- impulse is sent through the afferent/sensory nerves to the spinal cord.
- in the central nervous system (CNS) the impulse is transferred through the synapse.
- to an internural/connecting/relay neurone from which it passes through its own axon.
- the motor efferent organ then takes it to the effector organ.
- the effector organ now respond to the stimulus.
