Question 1
- Identify the object in the diagram above.
- State two places where the object could be placed during food service.
- List four food items that could be stored in the object
- State the use of the object in the diagram above.
- List four materials for making the object in the diagram above.
Observation
This question was not attempted by majority of the candidates and many of those that attempted it could not answer correctly. Candidates could not name the item in the diagram and they mentioned all sorts of names including cake and shakers. For the candidates that mentioned shakers, it shows that they had an idea of what the object in the diagram was but did not know the correct name for the item. Furthermore, for the candidates that mentioned cake, they either displayed their poor knowledge of the subject or failed to read the rubrics. This is because in a statement before the question, the item was introduced as a table accompaniment and therefore no candidate was expected to mention anything short of table accompaniment.
Consequently, the candidates that wrote the correct name of the table appointment in the diagram and those that wrote a close answer (e.g. shaker) were able to make a fair attempt at answering the parts b, c, d and that ensued while those that did not answer 1 (a) correctly were unable to answer the other parts.
