History Paper 2 Nov/Dec 2015

  1.   Outline any five economic activities in Hausaland up to 1800.

This question was very popular and was well attempted by the candidates except the few ones who identified relevant points but failed to explain them fully. Generally, candidates performed averagely well in this question. The question required them to explain different economic activities that took place in Hausaland before 1800. Good candidates identified and explained the following and other points to score good marks.

  1.     Tolls on caravan routes were charged;
  2.     cultivation of crops;
  3.     they were engaged in craftworks such as blacksmithing, leather works, dyeing, cloth-weaving etc;
  4.     they engaged in internal trade;
  5.     they engaged in external trade e.g. with North Africa, Yoruba land etc.
