Question 4
Discuss the Horrors of war in the novel

The war is presented through the experiences of different characters in the novel. The most obvious consequence of war is the general state of insecurity which it creates. There are assassinations, maiming, molestation of one another, and exploitation of the war situation. Characters that survived the war are emotionally traumatized. For instance Oshevire's wife and son are reduced to penury and consequently exposed to the whims and caprices of their supposed benefactor, Toje . Few candidates attempted this question, and they wrote out of context. This made them scored poor marks.
