(ii)   State four principles that governed artificial respiration.   [4 marks]
(b)       List four methods of artificial respiration.   [4 marks]

Observation

 

Most of the candidates attempted this question and the performance was fair. In part (a) (i) many candidates did not do well in it, just a few candidates correctly defined artificial respiration. In part (a) (ii) few candidates did well in it.  In part (b) many candidates were able to  correctly list methods of artificial respiration.
The expected answers are as follow:
(a)(i) Definition of artificial respiration
-a mechanical method of introducing oxygen into the body to revive/resuscitate a victim.
           
(ii) Principles that govern artificial respiration
            -keep the victim in a comfortable position
            -stop bleeding if there is injury
            -remove tight fittings around the chest to free the air passage
            -decide on a convenient method to use
            -keep the victim in an airy place
            -send for the doctor/move the victim to hospital
                       
(iii)  Methods of artificial respiration
            -Holger Nelson’s method
            -Scaffer’s method
            -Mouth to mouth method
            -Mouth to nose method
            -Silvester  method
