State six benefits of the 1946 Richard’s Constitution of Nigeria.


This was a very popular and regular question. The candidates performed averagely well in it. However, some candidates failed to satisfy the demands of the question; They mixed it up with other constitutions and thus failed to get good mark. The candidates were expected to provide the following answers to the question:

  1. The Legislative Council consisted of representatives of all the regions for the first time;
  2. The Legislative Council was for the first time to legislate for the whole country;
  3. The legislative Council had an unofficial majority for the first time;
  4. It introduced the concept of Regionalism to give Nigerians a sense of belonging;
            It increased the African membership in the Executive Council to two
