  1. The diagram below illustrated an equipment used in athletics.

Study it carefully and answer questions 1 (a)(i), (ii),

 

  1. (a) (i) Name the equipment illustrated in the diagram.                               [1 mark]

   
(ii)  Mention two events that can be performed with the equipment illustrated. [2 marks]

(iii)Mention the group of athletic events to which the illustratedequipment belongs. [1 mark]

(iv)  List five other events that belong to the group mentioned in 1(a) (iii) [5 marks]

(v)  List the three sprint styles an athlete could use to start a race involving the equipment illustrated in the diagram     [3 marks]

 

(b) State five rules guiding 1,500m race   [5 marks]

(c) Name the two events each of the:

(i) vertical jump;
(ii) horizontal jump. [4 marks]

(d) List four long distance races in athletics.  [4 marks]

 

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was good. 

In part (a)(i) candidates correctly named the hurdle stand, in (II) candidates also mentioned events that can be performed with hurdle stand, in (iii) correctly mentioned the group of athletics events to which the hurdle stand belongs in (iv) candidates also listed other events that belong to the group mentioned in 1 (a) (iii) and in (v) candidates correctly listed the sprint styles an athlete could use to start a race involving the hurdle stand. 

In part (b) candidates correctly stated rules guiding 1,500m race.  In part (c) (i) and (ii) candidates correctly named events of the vertical jump and horizontal jump.  In part (d) candidates also listed long distance races in athletics.

However, the expected answers are as follows:
