Observation

(a) Candidates were required to suggest various ways of resolving the crisis between farmers and herdsmen in the Country. In doing that, they were expected to distinguish between farmers and herdsmen. However, some points expected from them include the following:

-  Promotion of inter marriage between the herdsmen and the farmers;
-   Government should provide grazing reserve;
-  Farmers should harvest their produce from the farm in good time;
-  Farmers and herdsmen must be law abiding;
-  Arrangement for frequent meetings to amicably resolve issues;
-  Taking stringent measures on any of them that defaults;
-  Herdsmen should stop moving their animals for grazing at night etc.

 

Candidates’ performance on this question was encouraging.

 

(b) Above is an expository essay and the candidates were expected to write an autobiography of themselves from childhood till date. Thus, some major points required include:

-  Name, town, local government and state;
-  School attended;
-  His likes and dislikes; etc.


Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was fair.

 

(c) The question above is an argumentative essay, it sought the opinion of candidates regarding the most important means of communication between radio and mobile phone. In attempting the question, candidates were expected to take a position and advance convincing reasons for that.

(d) Above is informal letter writing.  The candidates were expected to write an informal letter using the following format.

-  Address of the writer
-  Salutation
-  Content
-  Conclusion

The content of the letter may include the following among others:

-  self-reliance;
-  provision of sufficient food for the family and society in general;
-  provision of raw materials to manufacturers;
-  to boost the economy;
-  provision of employment to the teeming unemployed youth;

 

   Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was commendable.

 

(e) The statement above is a proverb. Candidates were required to give its meaning, narrate a story that ends with the proverb and further identify other similar proverbs. For example:

-  Kwadayi mabudin wahala.
-  In da kwadayi da wulakanci.
-  Kuda wajen kwadayi akan mutu.
-  Wanda bai ji bari ba, ya ji hoho.
