Observation
This question was attempted by majority of the candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a) (i) many candidates correctly mention at least three lines on the badminton court. In part (a) (ii) many candidates correctly mentioned equipment used in badminton game. In part (b) few candidates could not clearly explain ally, rally and carry as used in badminton game. In part (c) they did well in it. In part (d) (i) many candidates correctly stated service rules that must be observed by a player during the game of table tennis. In part (d) (ii) they did well in it.
However, the expected answers are as follows:
(a)(i) Lines on the badminton court

(b) Explanation of terms as used in badminton game
(i) alley
-the space between the doubles court; and the singles court.
(ii) rally
-series of strokes in which two opposing players are able to keep the shuttle
in play; for long period/continuous play between two opposing players.
(iii) carry
-this is a situation in which shuttle rests; on the racket of a player during play.
(c) Instances when change of ends occur in badminton game
- at the end of the first game
- before the beginning of the third game/explained
- in the third game, when the leading score reaches six points in a game
of 11 points or 8 points in a game of 15 points.
(d)(i) Service rules that must be observed by a player during the game of table tennis
- the ball must be placed on the open palm of the free hand which must be stationary and above the playing table
- the ball when struck must first touch the server’s side of the table and pass directly over to the net to touch receiver’s side of the table
- the ball must be visible at all times to the umpire and opponent
- service must commence by the server projecting the ball by hand without imparting a spin/the ball must be tossed
- no other part of the body is allowed to be used in serving the ball other than the hand holding the bat
