Candidate's Weaknesses

 

Candidates’ weaknesses include:

  1. Lack of proper understanding of the essay topics they chose to write on as well as poor organization;
  2.  Lack of exposure to selected Literature texts (Oral and Written);
  3. Poor orthography e.g. dotting of letters, inappropriate use of tone marks, inability to differentiate between “òun” (a pronominal) and “ohun” (a thing);
  4. Inability to write correct spelling of terms in Yoruba;
  5. Shallow knowledge of the set texts;
  6. Poor knowledge of the phonological and grammatical aspects of the subject. 

 

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

 

  1. Candidates should imbibe the habit of using public libraries;
  2. Candidates should imbibe the habit of studying the set texts thoroughly;
  3. Candidates should utilize their time well so that part of the time allocated to this paper could be used to read through their work in order to correct some of their common mistakes in the use of punctuation marks and mis-spelt words.
  4. Candidates should equip themselves with the knowledge and correct usage of punctuation marks;
  5. Candidates should use appropriate tone marks, since Yoruba is a tonal language;
  6. Candidates should give special attention to the identified weaknesses contained in this report when preparing for the examination.
