Question 1

    (a) Wanda ya fi tsakanin zaman karkara da na maraya a ra’ayinka    

In your opinion which is more preferable between life in rural area or life in the urban centres?

    (b)    Yadda za a wadata kasa da kwararrun likitoci.

                        How to boost the number of qualified doctors in the country.

    (c)     Kasuwar garinmu.

    The market in our town.

    (d)     Rubuta wasiƙa zuwa ga shugaban karamar hukumarku, ka ba shi shawara a kan yadda za a kyautata tsaro a yankin.

    Write a letter to your Local Government chairman, suggesting ways through which security in your area could be improved.

    (e)       Idan kura na da maganin zawo, ta yi wa kanta

Observation

(a) The question above is an argumentative essay, it sought the opinion of candidates on where they would rather live - rural area or urban centre.
Candidates had divergent opinions and their performance was commendable.

(b) Above is an expository essay and the candidates were expected to write on the various ways through which the number of qualified doctors in the country could be increased.
Some of the expected points are:
          -         better remuneration;
          -         organizing conferences and workshops;
          -         giving incentive to students studying Medicine;
          -         funding professional trainings for medical doctors;
-        provision of modern equipment to hospitals and training doctors on how to use them.
  

Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was fair.

(c)The question above is a descriptive essay. In this essay, the candidates were expected
to:
          -         mention the name of the town and Local Government where the market is                      located;
          -         identify the market day;
          -         describe the size of the market;
          -         describe how the stalls were built;
          -         mention different items sold in the market;
          -         explain activities that take place in the market such as recreation, etc.
 

Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was encouraging.

(d) The is a formal letter. The candidates were expected to write the letter using the following format.

  • Address of the writer
  • Address of the receiver
  • Date
  • Title
  • Salutation
  • Content
  • Conclusion

 

The content of the letter may include the following among others:

                     -    provision of adequate security personnel;
-    educating people on the importance of peaceful coexistence;
-    engaging vigilante groups;
-    provision of sophisticated and adequate weapons;
-    creation of job opportunities for the youth, etc.

          Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was commendable.

(e)The statement above is a proverb.  Candidates were required to give its meaning, narrate a story that will end with the proverb and further identify other proverbs of its equivalent, for example:

          -         Idan mutum ya ce zai ba ka riga,dubi ta wuyarsa;
-         Idan kai na da tsoka, taba naka ka ji;
-         Idan mutum bai fi ka tsumma ba, ba zai nuna maka kwarkwata ba.

Few candidates attempted the question and their performance was poor.
