Observation

This is a question on vowel assimilation, its definition, types and examples. Candidates performed very well in the definition but mixed up assimilation with elision in the examples.


The points expected were:


(a) - Olilo ụdaume bụ mgbanwe dị n’ụda ụdaume nọketere onwe ha nso mgbe a na-
ekwu okwu ọsịịsọ.
ọ bụ mgbanwe ụdaume nọdebere onwe ha n’okwu na-enwe, ebe otu ụda na-ewere ọdịdị ụda nọdebere ya.
Nke a bụ mgbanwe na-adị na ụdaume mgbe a na-akpọkọta ha ọnụ ọsịịsọ na mkpụrụokwu, nkebiokwu maọbụ nkebi ahịrịokwu.

 

(b) (i) Olilo ihu: Nke a bụ ebe ụdaume dị n’aka ekpe na-agbanwe ụda ụdaume dị n’aka
nri ma mee ka o yie ya/daa ka ya.
- ụdaume dị n’azụ na-agbanwe ụda ụdaume dị n’ihu ma mee ka ọ dị ka ya/daa ka
ya.

(ii) Olilo azụ: Nke a bụ ebe ụdaume dị n’aka nri na-agbanwe ụda ụdaume dị n’aka
akpe ma mee ka o yie ya/daa ka ya.
- ụdaume dị n’ihu na-agbanwe ụda ụdaume dị n’azụ ma mee ka ọ dị ka ya/daa ka
ya.


(c) (i) akpa + ose = akpoose
(ii) ike + aka = ikaaka
(ii) Nwa + osu = Nwoosu
(iv) ụna + egbu = Uneegbu
(v) Nwa + igwe = Nwiigwe
(vi) oke + osisi = okoosisi
(vii) ụzọ + amaka = ụzaamaka
(viii) ije +ọma = ijọọma
